My First Encounter With Angels

In 2006 my girlfriend and I walked out of a Walmart and she was trying a bag of hot Cheetos and didn’t like them. I didn’t want them. She tried to give them to several people coming into the store. No one took them. She tried to give them to two employees outside and the boys laughed and pointed at her. Immediately and out of nowhere two homeless people showed up.

They took the food and thanked us. He said they hadn’t had anything to eat all day.
They were wearing heavy winter coats — too warm for the weather — and big backpacks, like camping gear.

The weird thing is, they looked strange. Once I looked at him and his eyes were super large and moved slowly with no jerkiness. When we got to the car, I told Niki about his eyes. She said he didn’t have eyes at all — just spaces in his sockets. She said we should give them a ride. It had only been two minutes. They were on foot with huge backpacks. They were old. They were gone. We searched the mall parking lot for 10 minutes. They evaporated.

He introduced himself and his wife. I don’t remember their names, but I do remember that he introduced the woman as “my darling bride.”

I remember that Niki had walked a ways toward the boys to offer them the food when they started to laugh. I was very angry and was on my way to give them a piece of my mind when the homeless couple appeared. Suddenly I was completely calm.
