The guys were having a few beers after their softball game when Jack had everyone rolling about that time way back in school when they were playing for the district championship.
They were one run down in the bottom of the 9th. Ben represented the winning run on 2nd base and almost forgot to run when Jack’s line drive to first, which was supposed to be a sacrifice, knocked out the first baseman. The poor kid had stopped paying attention momentarily to wave at his girlfriend and suddenly he was taking a nap in the dirt.
That was the day Jack’s magical double won them the championship.
Ben and Jack are still good friends who get together on Tuesday nights to play ball. Tonight Ben’s best shot was in laughter, spraying beer all over Jack; the story going in through the ears and out through the nose.
