Referrer Spam

I’d like to acknowledge the new, ingenious spamming method: Referrer Spam.

Here’s how it works…

You find a blog or site authored by someone who’s probably in your target market.

You visit the site and report the HTTP REFERER (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_referer) as being your site selling something.

Then when the author checks his Google Analytics or other log reporting method, he sees your site and wonders what your site is doing referring traffic to his site, then he goes to your site and sees you’re selling day trading or other sorts of services.

Really pretty smart.
