Why did DXM kill Andrew Michael?

Andy died because he took too much of a mixed cold remedy.  Those other things will kill you, including the “Tylenol.”

I can imagine how it happens: Kids take a cold remedy and they think it feels “neat,” so the next time they take it, they swallow more.  I’ve seen lots of posts from teens or young adults talking specifically about taking “Triple C” — a mixed up cold remedy.

Taking DXM by itself could easily be classified as foolish, but taking too much decongestant and/or acetaminophen (Tylenol) is directly hazardous to your health.

So, Joe, what if your kids want to experiment with DXM?  What would you tell them?

OH PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT

At the very least, DXM will cause you to be out of sync with the rest of the world and that’s not a comfortable place to live.  The grass isn’t always greener.

DXM might enable you to work “without rules” or “outside the system,” but unless you’re looking for changes you couldn’t possibly imagine doing (which I was, sorta) and willing to burn for a long time then I’d suggest you stay away from it.  You could possibly be prone to the same sorts of choices I made.  It would have been better to work inside the system, although I wouldn’t trade any of my experiences or the people I’ve met to go back and do it again… WHICH IS EASY TO SAY ON OCTOBER 22, 2012…

UPDATE FROM OCTOBER 23rd: I’ve decided to stop using DXM myself.
